The Amwell
Valley Business Association was formed in 1993 when a group of local
businesses realized their existence was threatened by an ordinance
which outlawed many long established and favorably recognized businesses
in the community. One of the first tasks the AVBA took on was to
assist in the development of home-based business ordinances that
would fairly address the concerns of residents for privacy, the negative
impact from business activity and recognize the reality of numerous
local and home-based businesses.
Since then, the AVBA has earned
a reputation for community activism, sponsoring and contributing
to numerous events, and getting involved in projects and events that
benefit the community. Some of the notable efforts have included:
- A community pig roast during the Ringoes NJ bicentennial celebration.
- Supporting
an local eagle scout’s project, for a snack shack at the community
ball field. The AVBA donated materials and members volunteered
to help construct the building.
- Donated a drinking fountain at the
community ball field.
- Sponsored the first performance of The Nutcracker
by the Hunterdon County Youth Ballet.
- Established an annual scholarship
and award program which includes a $1,000
scholarship and cash awards. (Additional information on this program
may be found by clicking on “Scholarships”).
- Participated in and
donated to numerous fund-raisers, to assist families dealing with
finanical hardship due to disability or catastrophic illness.
The AVBA continues to be committed. As we pursue our livelihoods,
we will continue to develop and support programs for the betterment
of all who call the Amwell Valley; home.
